During engine operation, by-products of the combustion process such as soot and carbon escape into the engine oil. These abrasive particles can cause extensive damage to engine components if they are not removed efficiently. The oil filter is responsible for retaining damaging contaminants that can enter the engine through inefficient oil filler cap, engine breather and dip-stick seals. Important note: All filters have a finite life. To ensure optimum engine protection, filters should be replaced in accordance with the vehicle or engine manufacturers service intervals or recommendations.
