Loeb breaks Volkswagen stranglehold with his eighth win in Argentina

Sebastien Loeb, in one of only four scheduled appearances with the Citroen team this year, proved his form yet again by taking a remarkable eighth victory in Argentina. After his initial victory in the season’s opener in the Monte Carlo Rally, Sebastien Ogier and the Volkswagen team have been in dominant form taking a hat trick of wins.

Another Ogier victory looked a distinct possibility as dominated the early part of the rally, winning five of the first six stages in his Volkswagen Polo R. But an off and then a puncture dropped him out of contention for the lead and leaving him in a comfortable second.

Jari-Matti Latvala finished third in another Polo R after a fight on the final day with the Ford Fiesta RS of Evgeny Novikov. Thierry Neuville finished fifth in another Fiesta RS.

Mikko Hirvonen in the second second citroen had climbed to second after Ogiers various problems, but a puncture and various technical problems troubles dropped him back to sixth where he eventually finished.

The rough and tumble of the Acropolis Rally at the end of this month is the next challenge the teams will face. Will Ogier restablish his superiority? Time will tell but the prospects look good for the French protegé of multi-world champion Loeb.
